Bahasa Inggeris dalam Kurikulum Prasekolah 2026

24 standard pembelajaran dalam empat kemahiran: listening, speaking, reading dan writing. 15 daripadanya ialah Kemahiran Asas.

The English language sub-learning area focuses on pupils’ comprehension ability in listening and reading, and use of appropriate expressions in speaking and writing, which are essential for effective interactions. Creative language elements are integrated into these skills through rhymes, songs, poems and stories. This sub-learning area is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Listening

Listening to recognise, understand and give appropriate responses.
BI 1.1 Recognise and understand the sounds in songs and spoken language.
  • BI 1.1.1* Asas
    Listen and recognise sounds, letters, words, phrases and simple sentences. Examples: • Environmental sounds (natural sounds - rainfall, bees buzzing) (man-made sounds - bell rings, whistle blowing) • Letters of the alphabet • Numbers 1 to 20 • Thematic words (animals, school, colours, food, my body) • Greetings (daily, festivals, occasions) Nota: ABC: the English alphabet

    Listen and recognise sounds in monosyllable words. Examples: • Monosyllable words (consonant, vowel, consonant - c a t, b e d, s a y) • Blend or segment sounds (cat, bed, say)
  • BI 1.1.3
    Listen and understand rhymes, songs, poems and short stories.
BI 1.2 Understand and respond to spoken language.
  • BI 1.2.1* Asas
    Listen, understand and respond in a variety of contexts. Examples: • Environmental or man-made sounds (thunder, school bell rings) • Daily routines (exchange greetings, express feelings, make simple requests) • Rhymes, songs and stories
  • BI 1.2.2* Asas
    Listen and follow or respond to questions, requests, instructions or rejections. Examples: • Questions (How are you today?, Where are you going?, How was school?) • Requests (May I borrow your pencil?) • Instructions (Do not shout. Please stand up.) • Rejections (No, you may not. No, thank you.) • All should be said politely and in complete sentences.
  • BI 1.2.3* Asas
    Listen, understand and respond to simple descriptions of familiar objects, daily routines, events or stories. Examples: • Familiar objects (shapes, colours, textures, sizes) • Daily routines (in the morning, in the classroom, at night) • Events (occasions, locations, functions) • Stories (fairytales, folklores, fables, myths, legends, fantasies)

Speaking

Speaking to express oneself through verbal and non-verbal language in various situations.
BI 2.1 Communicate simple information.

    Use words, phrases and sentences to express oneself. Likes, dislikes, needs, feelings and ideas
  • BI 2.1.2
    Participate in daily conversations. • Exchange basic information about oneself • Exchange greetings • Show appreciation o Politely and appropriately o Use suitable gestures and facial expressions
  • BI 2.1.3
    Recite simple nursery rhymes and poems or sing songs.

    Participate in talks about stories. • Children’s stories, folklores, fables, fairytales, myths, legends and fantasies • Stories read, heard or seen

Reading

Reading to recognise letters and words, understand the meaning of symbols, words, phrases and simple sentences.
BI 3.1 Display print and book awareness.
  • BI 3.1.1* Asas
    Read, recognise and understand common labels, signs, logos and symbols. Examples: • Labels (on things, on packages) • Signs (safety signs, road signs) • Logos (on products, of companies) • Symbols (emojis, &, @, !, ?)
  • BI 3.1.2
    Demonstrate book-handling skills and recognise the basic features of a book. • Front/back cover • Title, writer, contents and page number
  • BI 3.1.3* Asas
    Understand illustrations or images. • Illustrations (cartoon strips, drawings) • Images (photographs, pictures, digital images)
  • BI 3.1.4
    Read in the correct manner. • Distance between the eyes and texts. • Read from front to the back. • Read from left to right. • Read from top to bottom line by line.
BI 3.2 Understand texts and their meanings.
  • BI 3.2.1* Asas
    Read and recognise the shapes, names and sounds of letters of the alphabet. The whole-word approach, phonics or a combination of both can be used. Nota: ABC: the English alphabet
  • BI 3.2.2* Asas
    Read and recognise initial, medial and final sounds in a word. Examples: • Initial sounds (cat, bin, play) • Medial sounds (fork, school, feet) • Final sounds (cat, bin, fork, feet, brush, jump, sing)
  • BI 3.2.3* Asas
    Read and understand words. • High-frequency words • Numbers • With the help of visuals or support materials
  • BI 3.2.4
    Read and understand simple phrases and sentences. Examples: • Simple phrases (a blue ball, an ant) • Simple sentences (This is a blue ball. That was an ant.)
  • BI 3.2.5
    Read, understand and respond to stories in print or digital materials. Examples: • Printed materials (notices, flash cards, stories, posters) • Digital materials (photographs, movies, cartoons, video clips) • Use wh-questions for comprehension. • Reflect and relate stories to oneself. • Role-play

Writing

Writing to communicate using print and symbols.
BI 4.1 Display prewriting skills.
  • BI 4.1.1* Asas
    Demonstrate fine motor control of hands and fingers by using writing tools correctly.
  • BI 4.1.2* Asas
    Write with correct pencil hold grip and posture. Examples: • Hand-eye coordination activities (scribbling, tracing, colouring, drawing) • Sitting posture
BI 4.2 Use basic writing skills for communication.
  • BI 4.2.1* Asas
    Write letters of the alphabet. • Beginners: tracing and joining the dots • Capital and small letters, numbers, familiar and simple words
  • BI 4.2.2* Asas
    Copy words, phrases and sentences in legible print.
  • BI 4.2.3
    Express thoughts and information in drawings, symbols or writings. • On paper or in digital format • Writing with invented spelling is allowed.

Tahap penguasaan Bahasa Inggeris

Guru menilai anak pada tiga tahap bagi setiap Standard Prestasi di bawah. TP3 ialah tahap tertinggi.

TP3 Pupil can understand, respond and participate in daily conversations politely.
BI 3Read and understand texts or visuals in print or digital materials.
TP1 Pupil can read and sound out words with prompting.
TP2 Pupil can read and understand familiar words and phrases.
TP3 Pupil can read and understand words, phrases and simple sentences.
BI 4Communicate thoughts and information in drawings, symbols or writings.
TP1 Pupil can express thoughts or information using symbols or drawings.
TP2 Pupil can express thoughts or information using a combination of symbols, drawings, words and phrases.
TP3 Pupil can express thoughts or information using a combination of symbols, drawings, words, phrases and simple sentences appropriately.
